The damaged schools that children in Syria once learned in and the abandoned parks where young friends spent joyful times have been visited by viewers in Lebanon over a 100 kilometres away, with a pair of Virtual Reality glasses.

Sultan’s* days are mostly long. The end of each day is not decided by time, but by traffic. When there are no cars left on the street, it is a signal for him to go home.

On the occasion of World Refugee Day, Save the Children joins four Syrian adolescents as they discuss life away from home.

‘’When I return one day, there will be less of everything. Everything will have been destroyed,’’ says Ali, ‘’There will be fewer people.’’

There is always a first time for everything. So the saying goes. A first day at school, for any child, is always an anxious, exciting time that marks a fresh start in life.

A school shelled, a house destroyed and a dream shattered. A childhood thrown into the anarchy of conflict and the future of a whole generation is taking a dangerous, unforeseeable twist.
