Winter in Lebanon’s Bekaa valley is harsh for lonely and elderly Fatouma

63-year-old Fatouma is a mother of 6 boys and 5 girls. Her husband left her 20 years ago in Edleb in Syria where she worked in the fields along with her children. Fatouma was forced to flee Syria with her family more than 4 years ago when the shelling got intensified nearby her house.

Save the Children empowers Lebanese organizations to make sustainable change in communities’ lives

“When we first established 'Al Tafawwok wal Saadah', we didn’t have much experience. We had problems on the financial, technical, managerial and financial levels. Our mission and vision weren’t clear enough and the staff members’ roles weren’t organized. However, our volunteering spirit and neutrality made us progress and prove ourselves to Save the Children Lebanon (SCL) ”, says Fayek Shehadeh, project coordinator in the organization.

Photo Story: Iraqi Refugee Women Attend Positive-Parenting Sessions

Save the Children’s Child Protection programme in Beirut held a week long positive parenting workshop to Iraqi women who have fled the conflict in their country and sought refuge in Lebanon.The Japan Platform (JPF) is funding this project to ensure that the desperation and recent vulnerability of newly displaced parents does not severely affect their relationship with their children.

The workshop elaborates on the goals that parents want to achieve with their children and the means to attain these goals through good means of communication, mutual respect, and trust.

Syrian Refugee Children Draw What They Miss Most About Home

Four years on, the Syria crisis has led four million people to flee their homes and seek refuge in neighboring countries in the region. Innocent children have been forced to leave their country and settle in new environments.
