Reem, 19, and Hanan, 22, both live in the same neighborhood but due to their introverted and shy nature, their relationship was limited to the casual greeting when they ran into each other. They both participated in Save the Children’s youth training programme and had been offered an internship in their village’s municipality. The programme, made possible by the Bureau of People, Refugees and Migration (BPRM) not only facilitated the young girls’ first steps into their careers, but also created a very strong friendship between them.

Four years on the war in Syria has left hundreds of thousands of children homeless, without any education or even without adequate food and nutrition essential for their lives and growth. The following four stories reflect the plight of Syrian refugee children in Lebanon.

Salem carries potatoes instead of books

BEIRUT, 16th February 2015 – A study launched today sheds light on the plight of working street-based children in Lebanon.

At the end of the work day, the landlord makes sure that all the harvested potatoes are loaded in the truck to be shipped to the market.
