Twelve months that transformed the lives of many youths have been crowned, as Save the Children marked the success of the latest of its youth-focussed projects with a closing ceremony held at Bourj Hammoud Centre in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Five scorching summers gave way to even rougher winter seasons, and Hadi* was still in desperate search for a roof to protect his two kids from harsh weather conditions that hit hard over the years. 

In an atmosphere immersed in lively activities and creative ideas, the Arts and Crafts Exhibition for children was held by the Child Protection division at Save the Children Lebanon, at the Jdita informal settlement, the Bekaa Valley.

Fleeing their home in Syria’s conflict-hit Homs, Takla and her husband were only worried about protecting their six children. Their escape, however, was soon turned into a heartbreak.

In Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, the couple hoped they could secure a safe refuge for their children. However, it wasn’t too long before realising that their informal settlement didn’t meet the simplest of needs.
